Rugged, rocky terrain on the Alexandra trails
There is a maze of trails, all with incredible views
One of the rocky descents at Alexandra
There are so many tracks out here that we wouldn’t dare send you out alone! So QBT have teamed up with the local guys from Altitude Adventures to provide some guided riding in the area. QBT will pick you up from your Queenstown accommodation and drive you out through the Karawau Gorge to Alexandra. Here we’ll meet up with our friendly guide and hit the trails. This place is where the term ‘single track’ was coined, everything from tight technical climbs, long flowy descents and plenty of rock features thrown in. Your guide will tailor the ride to your ability, with plenty of options and short cuts all over the range. On the drive home, it usually doesn’t take much to bribe the driver into stopping for a beer or two!
Mat says: ‘Alexandra is the secret of South Island trail riding. You have to ride here.
We rode super mellow thyme lined miners water races (flat trails!) to extra gnarly trails made entirely from rock. The trails were flat out amazing! The guides from Altitude, Phil showed us around, are friendly and stupidly fast on the downs. Land ownership issues prevent a map from being printed but there are sooo many trails, I came back and tried to ride here with no guide and I got lost, real lost! Jono was cool, his van was full and the trip was real fun! Check out the DH trail in Clyde of you get the chance too. Wicked!’
